The fuel allowance is a €100 financial aid proposed in 2023 by the French government to help modest workers using their cars. This aid had been introduced to support the purchasing power of households suffering from the increase in oil prices due to the war in Ukraine. The scheme will be extended to 2024.

Who will be entitled to this aid?

The government wants to target low-income employees and apprentices who regularly use their vehicles.

To qualify for this aid, the following conditions must be met:

• Be established in mainland France, Mayotte, Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique or Reunion Island.
• Be at least 16 years old on December 31, 2022
• Have a 2022 tax return showing a reference income per unit of less than €14,700. To calculate this income, divide your reference tax income by the number of units in your household (1 unit for an adult and 0.5 for a child).

To give you an idea, here are the ceilings you must not exceed to benefit from the fuel allowance:

• 1,314€net per month for a single person
• 3,285€net per month for a couple with one child
• 3,285€net per month for a single woman with two children
• 3,941€net per month for a couple with two children
• 5,255€ net per month for a couple with three children

How can I benefit from the fuel allowance?

You have to apply for it. You can go to the tax authorities website: impots.gouv.fr. You ll need your tax number (available on your tax notice) and the registration number of your car. All you have to do is fill in a declaration on your honor stating that you need this vehicle to go to work. You will receive this aid within 2 weeks.
